Glampelo is situated at the Southwest border of the Serra da Estrella (Star mountains). This western extension of the Castilian dividing range has been a naturepark since 1976 natuurpark. It covers an area of over 100.000
hectares which makes it Portugals largest naturepark.
Naturally it comes as no suprise that our visitors will regularly catch glimpses of all kinds of animals.
Deer and bore often come to drink from our river. Especially early in the morning, the quiet onlooker can enjoy these wonderful scenes.
Just a few meters past our domain, upstream, a very large otter has made camp.
In the valley you'll also encounter squirrels, both red and jetblack ones, a magnificent owl, a couple of eagles and many skylarks(who love our grapes!).
The true naturelover might even, if he shows some patience and knowledge, see a fox, genetcat or badger.
While hiking chances are that you'll see lots of lizards, maybe even the Lacerta monticola monticola, a rare species of the Iberian mountainlizard which only lives in this region.
The valley in which Glampelo is situated is scattered with Eucalyptus, Mimosa and Ferns. The Eucalyptus is responsable for the wonderful smells while the Mimosa and Ferns show off their brilliant colors. Every season brings a new variaty of colors and shades which, in contrast with the blue sky, give the valley its picturesque look.
Our personal touch has added a collection of flowers which bloom nearly all year round.
The many grapevines provide us with both wine- and table grapes and give our domain its distinct look. The olivetrees give us a yearly crop of green and black delights. And both the grapevines and the olivetrees give groups of students the opportunity to spend an extremely cheap holiday with us (see our special promotions here)
Our vegetable-, herbs- and fruitgardens are the source of many of our delicious meals.
And for the botanists the area has many unique findings on offer : Pyrenean Oak (Quercus pyrenaica), water-crowfoot and Great Yellow Gentian (Gentiana lutea)!
