Airtravel

The 2 main airports in Portugal are Lisbon and Porto. There are daily flights with several low-cost airlines from many different airports in the UK to Portugal. The flight is extremely short with an average of 1,5 to 2,5h.
At the airport you'll do well in renting a 4x4 wagen (for example with www.sunnycars.com you get a Nissan Qashqai for only 60€ !!!). Portugals roads and the acces to Glampelo are excellent but if you want to find all the hidden treasures, a car that's comfortable in the mountains is always a good idea.

By Car

Click here for the Google-maps from Lisbon and from Porto. Once you've arrived at the destination of the maps (GPS-coordinates : 40.00132,-8.305893) you'll find yourself at the top of a mountain. There you'll see a very decrepid busstop and the first of our own private roadsigns "Glampelo" pointing towards a smaller road. Keep following our own roadsigns for about 5km. The last kilometre is a (very nice) graveltrack.

Public Transport

Lisbon to Castanheira de Pera
Take a taxi from the airport to the "Sete Rios" bus Station (next to the "Jardim Zoológico"). This taxiride will take about 5 minutes and will cost less than 10€.
The bus leaves every day (except sundays and bankholidays) at 14:45 (buy your tickets at least 15 min. in advance) The bus will arrive in Castanheria de Pera at 18:00. The trip will cost €12,40
Porto to Figueiró dos Vinhos
Take a taxi to the "Rede Expressos" bus terminal on Alexandre Herculano Street (Garagem Aliança à Rua Alexandre Herculano).
The bus leaves daily (except sundays and bankholidays) at 10:45 and arrives in Figueiro dos Vinhos at 14:30. The trip will cost €14,50

Penela

Glampelo is situated just inside the borders of Penela, one of the most dynamic townships in the area.
Thanks to mayor Paulo Jùlio, and his team, this - in square footage very large - "Municipio" joined a select group of communities spread all over Europe, called "Ermis" (Effective Reproducible Model of Innovation System) and the "Smart Rural Living Lab".
In Penela and its surroundings everyone will find what they are looking for !

Just a small list :

• St Michaels church (12th century)
• The ruins of the Roman village of Rabaçal with magnificent mosaics (4th century) + museum
• San Antonio Abbey (1578)
• The caves of Algarinho and Talismã (largest in Portugal)
• Typical "xist" villages like Ferraria de S. João
• Wonderful scenery, waterfalls ("Pedra Ferida" very close to Glampelo !), Praya Fluvial's and Mirador's

And Penela is now also investing in the rebuilding of an original Xist-village (very close to Glampelo), installing an Adventure Parc and sponsoring the fine arts (incl photography).
